Urodynamics is a set of tests that measure lower urinary tract function, that is: bladder filling and storage, and bladder evacuation.

A urinary flow study is a graphic representation of urethral flow. The patient arrives for testing with a comfortably full bladder and is asked to urinate into a funnel incorporated into a machine that measures flow as milliliters per second (ml/sec). It’s like “peeing into a computerized toilet”.

The CMG is a graphic representation of pressure as function of bladder volume. A specifically designed urodynamic catheter is inserted for infusion and measurement of pressures. Atube with a small balloon is placed into the rectum; it is used to measure abdominal pressures. that is the reason why bowel cleanout, prior to this study, is necessary.
